God's Gift Of Freedom Through His Son!

All but the slaves in Texas heard about Abraham Lincoln's January 1, 1863 Emancipation Proclamation setting American slaves free. Texas slaves heard the news just over two months after the end of the Civil War on June 19, 1865. Freedom from the shackles of physical slavery was a happy occasion for all the slaves. However, some had already been made free by Jesus Christ long before Lincoln's proclamation. They had been graciously freed inwardly and eternally from slavery to sin by the truth of salvation through faith in Christ (John 8:31-36). Their freedom included a Scripture rooted redeeming joy in the divine purpose of their physical enslavement:

The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.  The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of the LORD does valiantly.  The right hand of the LORD is exalted; the right hand of the LORD does valiantly.  I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.  The LORD has chastened me severely, but He has not given me over to death.
